Francine Aftermath

September 17, 2024

Some folks have been wondering how the new boat did during her first New Orleans hurricane. Short answer: just fine. She looks exactly like I left her before the storm. But storm-time New Orleans lakefront is interesting enough. Here's a story in pictures. And one little video at the end.

Nothing Going On, It's Just Fucking Hot

August 30, 2023

I went to look for hurricane coverage this morning and found to my surprise, that Hulu live has The Weather Channel now. I hope the damage from this one is minimal, and that the loss of life is limited to unloved assholes. I thought this one would be too far east to affect us, but we're having a "way west of the hurricane" days, where there's a good breeze, lower humidity, and sunny skies.

LSU vs. Tennessee

September 28, 2005

It's a good thing that college football isn't normally played on Monday night. It's a bad thing that I used up my "way too drunk" tailgate day on a Monday.

Laughing After a Disaster

There are blogs aplenty if you want to read about how horrible the hurricane damage and evacuation to Baton Rouge is. And other than mentioning that I still have no electricity, I won't complain today. Or at least, I won't complain here. Instead, I want to compile a list of the amusing things that happened this week. If you have your own story to share, please email me, and I'll pass it on.

Hurricane Katrina

August 31, 2005

Even before the hurricane, I was behind in my posting, but the events in Louisiana the last few days have made it even more difficult to add to this blog. Here are some notes I've made about what's happening from here.

Hurricane Ivan

September 16, 2004

Gratefully, Hurricane Ivan turned out to be a non-event for Baton Rouge. Yesterday was the day of anticipation. The storm was due to hit land in the evening. I was whipped all day long. After my 3:30 - 7:30 AM journey to secure Velvet Elvis, I headed in for a full day of work. Needless to say, I was dragging ass, with red eyes from lack of sleep and dirty contacts.

Evacuating New Orleans

September 15, 2004

I went outside at 3:20 this morning. Yes, it's pretty crazy to be up that early, but I find myself in the hour when only the crazies are awake from time to time. My mission this morning was to drive to Mandeville and back to secure Velvet Elvis before Hurricane Ivan blows through. Traffic had been ridiculous during the day, so I figured I would go out when it was only me and a few other nuts.

Hurricane Season and Other News

June 01, 2004

The ideal hurricane is just strong enough to provide some impressive weather, shut off the power for the day, pull down some limbs, and keep you home from work. It can't do any real, serious damage, but it still has to get the office to close down, just in case. It's a tall order for any weather phenomena, and my hat is off to God when he pulls off the ideal hurricane.
