Nice Kid, This One

April 13, 2012

A couple of weeks ago, we had a hellacious thunder storm come through during the middle of the night. I was awake upstairs, in a small bed with Vanya and Lily. We had a huge flash and bang. I don't know if it was the lighning or the sound of the thunder, but I literally felt it shake me. The inside of my mouth felt weird.

Music Friday: H.O.V.A

April 13, 2012

I wanted to feature something this morning from Madonna's new album, MDNA, but to be honest, there's nothing there that excites me that much yet. Maybe once I get to know the songs better.

Music Friday: The View

April 06, 2012

It's difficult to google up a video from the Scottish band The View. You get a lot of clips of politicians being falsely cordial with this group of bitchy old women who have a television show by that name.

Scene From Mad Men This Week

April 05, 2012

It seems to be a theme with a lot of the television that is good right now. If you watch it, you like it, but you can't really describe anything that is particularly likeable. Maybe I can look into that phenomenon for you in a future post, but now, I'm going to give you an example about what is so good about Mad Men.

Monday Weather Adventure

April 03, 2012

Today, I was working upstairs, and I heard it start to thunder. I finished up what I was doing and went outside to put the roof on my Jeep. It was quick and easy, and the rain started to fall just as I finished up.u

Music Friday: Two for the Price of None

March 31, 2012

I saw this video on NME, and was then disappointed to find that Spotify had only two tracks by California X. Amazon had just the same two, so maybe that's all they've written. Doesn't exactly make me want to pin them as future break out monster stars, but this tune is a good one. Reminds me of the first time I found My Chemical Romance on line.

You'll be Missed, Moose and Zee

March 28, 2012

As it true with so many things, I didn't realize that I was attached to Moose and Zee until they were gone. And to be perfectly honest, I didn't even realize it then. It had crossed my mind, "I think I missed the Moose and Zee thing between these cartoons. I wonder how that happened," but I didn't actually know that the characters had been retired until I heard it between songs on Sirius/XM's Alt Nation channel (of all places).

Music Friday: Safe and Sound

March 23, 2012

There must have been some top-tier procrastination going on at my desk this week. Because I've never once before heard a Taylor Swift song (although I know the name), and there's exactly a zero percent chance that I will see Hunger Games. But somehow, I found this video, and I like it.

Fat Tuesday in Mamou

March 23, 2012

You know what's even more lame than a post about Mardi Gras more than two weeks into Lent? A second Mardi Gras post that comes two weeks after that.

Music Friday: 212

March 16, 2012

Would it be fun to make these music videos a regular feature? Maybe I can have a post ready for you every Friday morning, to kick off your last work day before the weekend. Or, maybe I'll never do this again. Too early to tell.

Friday Morning Shoutout

March 09, 2012

I lived in Connecticut (State motto: Impossible for even former residents to spell our name without spell check) my last two years in high school. Unfortunately, I missed out on all of the sex that is apparently going on up that way. But Connecticut of the late 80's was a place of girls in bulky sweaters, and if any leg was showing at all, it was masked by long-underwear pants. So it might have been harder to work up a good, old fashioned case of being horny back then.

A Short Post Wherein I Fix Mardi Gras

March 07, 2012

I think that ever since they moved to Thursday night, Muses has followed the Krewe of Chaos. The contrast couldn't be more stark. Chaos is a terrible parade. Just terrible. The bands aren't good. The floats aren't clever. They're pretty much out of throws by the time they get downtown. It just couldn't be a whole lot worse.
