Gridlock

This is from the first week of school.

Streets are backed up because it takes so long to say our goodbyes that first week. Lower school parents are sitting up there at drop off tying shoes and cajoling junior to take one more bite of toast.

In this picture, I'm just a few minutes away. But it might as well be infinitely far, because none of us are moving at all.

The white truck can't go, because it's bumper to bumper stopped in front of him off the left side of the picture. The cars coming toward me should be in one lane of each direction, but some drivers got tired of waiting and drove toward me but in the left lane. That means that the two cars trying to make left turns to drive away from me have no street. So they're just stopped in the middle of everything.

And you better believe that there's a long line behind me too.
