Coaches' Golden Parachute
May 22, 2026
There is one industry where the job market is ripe for former LSU head coaches. If you're a former LSU head coach, the LSU Athletic Department is hiring. Take a look:
Formerly: Head coach, men's basketball.
Currently: Assistant coach, men's basketball.
John Brady
Formerly: Head coach, men's basketball. Lead the team to a final four in 2006.
Currently: Radio analyst for men's basketball broadcasts, LSU Sport Radio Network.
Bob Starkey
Formerly: Interim head coach for women's basketball. Lead the team to a final four in 2007.
Currently: Assistant coach, woman's basketball.
Will Wade
Formerly: LSU head coach for men's basketball. Won 2018-2019 conference championship.
Currently: LSU head coach for men's basketball.
Ed Ogeron
Formerly: LSU head football coach. Put together the greatest college team ever to play the game and win a national championship in 2019.
Currently: LSU assistant football coach.
This is an unbelievable collection of former head coaches who hold current positions. I've got to think that something like this has never happened before and will never happen again.
The latest hire is Ogeron, of course. LSU bade the last payment on his 17.1 million dollar buyout in December. 17 million disappears quickly when you like to party and when half of it goes out to the ex-wife. His new salary is reported to be $100,000 annually.
I mentioned this on LSU Reddit, but this is absolutely not going to end well. But the ride toward the inevitable crash and burn is going to be fun as hell.
