Baseball Lamentations
April 28, 2026
You wouldn't believe how often I start writing a blog post and then don't finish and post it. Or I guess you wouldn't believe it if you're under 42. Back in the late aughts, there was a minute where we all had a blog.
A couple of weeks ago, I started one to express my confidence that LSU Baseball was about to pull it all together and have a great run through the end of the season. We had flashes of some good pitching, some games where the bats came alive, and a number of freshmen coming into their own.

SEC Network guide writer with the truth this weekend.
And you can still see upside here and there, but the Tigers keep finding ways to lose. It's like opposite season. Most years, LSU might be down by 5 in the 7th inning, but as often as not, they seemed to find a way to get to less-good relievers and pull out a win. Now, I see other teams doing that to us week after week.
It almost makes me feel for the Arkansas fans who were in the same place as us during that College World Series last year.
Not quite, but almost.
For posterity, there are some records I've heard lately:
- First time ever that the Tigers have lost 9 games in a row in conference play.
- First time since the 70s that football, men's basketball, and baseball will have a losing record in conference play.
- .960-something fielding percentage. Outside of Milam and Curiel, the fielders look like a bunch of clowns every week.
- Hit by pitch count leads the league, and is like 35 more batters than second place.
I'm going off of my memory of talk show points yesterday, so some of this is probably off.
But I'll keep watching every game. And the way some of these freshmen look, I'm sort of excited for next season.
